Sentimental Sort of Teacher

Today I’m feeling poorly – Ahhhh, I hear you say. Well, thank you. 🙂

As a result, I missed out on being with my students this afternoon. [Insert more sympathy sounds here].

Anyway, I’m sure they were fully engaged, learning and teaching each other (thanks to the great bunch of people I work with. One of the tutors stepped in literally 10 mins before the class!)

Today’s topic was inspired from the Time Magazine, Special Edition “TIME presents its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, from artists and leaders to pioneers, titans and icons”

We (kind of) chose Beyonce. I prepared some activities around the article and created a forum post on the class LMS. The questions was “Who do you think is the most influential person in the world?”

One of the issues in blended learning is the online participation, especially if the course site is designed and delivered ‘poorly’. Being absent from the class today, I was rather pessimistic about how many submissions I’d get.

Well, here’s the punchline – I have received some submissions from the class! Amazing but true! Highly motivated and engaged students respond positively to online learning, provided they receive timely feedback 🙂

Therefore, I can’t continue with this blog post as I’ve got some online marking to do, he he.

BTW, I received tweets from some students too! Isn’t it great?! (Being able to keep in touch with your students even when you’re too poorly to be in class, that is)
